What To Do When the Heat Goes Out03/08/2017Call it Murphy’s Law, or maybe just a little unluckiness, but we sometimes see heat pump issues in Wisconsin Rapids during the cooler months, when they’re necessary to keep you warm. While you know the team at Rapids Sheet Metal Works Inc will constantly be there ASAP when you ask for us for a heat pump repair, there are some things you can do to ensure a repair is necessary and save yourself some money if it’s not. We’ve compiled this checklist of things to test before you give us a call. It may sound silly, but make sure everything is set to “on”. We’ve been to numerous calls only to discover the thermostat or the heat pump itself is switched off. Inspect your thermostat to ensure it’s on, set to the appropriate temperature and isn’t switched to cool. Then try changing the battery, if it has one. If everything looks accurate, check your furnace switch (check your manual if you’re hesitant about where it is) and test your fuses and circuit breaker. Double check that your gas is on. If the furnace still hasn’t switched on, go back to your thermostat. If it’s a programmable model, confirm that it’s showing the proper time. If it thinks it’s morning when it’s really night, it may not switch your heat on because it doesn’t know you’re home. Is a blockage causing your furnace to not work? Check your air filters to make sure they’re not clogging things up. Do you have any obstructed ducts, vents or cool air intakes? Are all supply registers accessible? Is your exhaust flue unobstructed? If you’ve moved through this checklist and you’re still deprived of heat, call Rapids Sheet Metal Works Inc at 715-421-5555 or arrange an appointment online and we’ll get your home back to the warm and cozy place it should be.
